Important informations

For the examination of the digestive tract, the capsule endoscopy procedures are used more and more frequently, during which we can take images on the digestive system without causing any pain.

The size of the capsule endoscope is like a multivitamin tablet and it can easily be swallowed with a glass of water.

Inside the capsule there is light source and a miniaturized digital camera which takes two to three pictures per second as it passes through the digestive tract.

The capsule endoscopy examination is completely non-invasive (does not cause any pain or discomfort) during which the patients can listen to music, read a book or rest in our private medical center. The size of the capsule endoscope is 20×10 mm, it is easy to swallow and does not cause any problems.

The small intestines capsule endoscopy procedure was originally developed for the examination of bowel sections which cannot be reached via conventional endoscopy, such as the entire the small intestines.

Among the medical indications of the small intestines capsule endoscopy, the following should be noted: anemia of unknown origin, bloody stool, suspected bleeding in the small intestines, inflammatory conditions of the small intestines (Crohn disease), suspected tumor or lymphoma in the small intestines or malabsorption and digestive problems of unknown origin. However, the examination can be recommended to complete a full gastroenterological examination even in symptom-free individuals.

The only contraindication of the capsule endoscopy is when the patient has a pacemaker.
